{"id":8409,"date":"2021-07-01T00:01:36","date_gmt":"2021-06-30T22:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/?p=8409"},"modified":"2021-06-17T12:27:19","modified_gmt":"2021-06-17T10:27:19","slug":"tips-and-tricks-for-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/2021\/07\/01\/tips-and-tricks-for-july\/","title":{"rendered":"Tips and Tricks for July"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>We all want <strong>colour for winter<\/strong> and violas, pansies and calendulas are perfect to fill that role this winter.<\/li>\n<li>Deadheading annuals are required to encourage them to flower.<\/li>\n<li>The time is now to <strong>prune fruit trees<\/strong> like peaches and nectarines.<\/li>\n<li>Roses need pruning in <strong>July<\/strong> and the more you cut off the better it is for the growing season. <strong>Two thirds<\/strong> of the bush can be taken down to allow for healthy growth and flowering.<\/li>\n<li>After all the pruning of fruit trees and roses it is very important to <strong>seal the wound<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/product\/pruning-seal-170g\/\">Prune seal<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Fertilize your fruit trees with <a href=\"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/product\/culterra-general-fertilizer-232-5kg\/\">Culterra 2:3:2<\/a> to build strength for the growing season and remember to <strong>apply water after fertilizing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Roses need love as well so give them a generous feeding of <strong>rose fertilizer and remember to water after fertilizing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a good time to plant<strong> Cabbage<\/strong> and can add an interesting feature, <strong>red cabbage<\/strong> can bring some colour to the herb garden.<\/li>\n<li>Our soil will be colder so plant your seeds <strong>a bit shallower<\/strong> and cover it with grass clippings to help germination.<\/li>\n<li>Winter does not mean we can\u2019t plant! It is a great time to <strong>plant trees and shrubs<\/strong> because their roots will develop now and you can boost it with <a href=\"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/product\/culterra-superphosphate-2kg\/\">Culterra superphosphate<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/product\/culterra-bone-meal-2kg\/\">Bonemeal<\/a>. This will help your plants to be ready when growing season comes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>One last tip!<\/strong> Plant some <a href=\"https:\/\/vanniekerkkwekery.co.za\/index.php\/product\/leptospermum-double-white-4l\/\">Leptospermum<\/a> (Tea bush)!
