Tips and tricks for March

  • Dead head your summer annuals and perennials to get the last bit of joy out of them.
  • With all the lovely rain we had, snails might be a problem so keep an eye out and stock up on some snail bait.
  • Winter bulbs will soon be available so keep an eye out so you can start to plant it in open ground, pots or containers.
  • Keep the garden well watered in the last hot days, also it will become time to adjust your water program to the cooler days.
  • It is a good time now to lift and divide plants like Agapanthus and Dietes (Wild Iris).
  • With all the planting and dividing it is important to use loads of compost and a general fertilizer.
  • It is time now to sow winter veggies, ask us in store for availability.
  • Other seeds that can be sowed now are Namaqualand daisies, sweat peas, poppies, primula and many more. Come check in store for more excellent choices.
  • A hand saver tip! Check your water features now and clean it properly. Also check your pump and filter to make sure it is clean. This will be a very unpleasant thing to do when it is cold.
  • With all the rain we had roses might develop black spot, it can be treated with products like Protek’s copper count or Efekto rose care 3.
  • It is also important to feed the roses, we have a selection of fertilizers available.
  • Liquid fertilizer can be used for roses and also herbs. Seagrow is a very versatile for not just herbs but also for hanging baskets and container plants.
